PRESS RELEASE

Diana Roman from Winters Mill HS and Sean Welsh from Westminster HS earned the distinction of being the 2008 recipients of a $1,000 scholarship for their academic, school and community achievements. Ms. Roman will be studying at St. Mary's College and Mr. Welsh will attend American University.

 

Megan Shultz is the recipient of a $4,000 scholarship payable in $1,000 increments over the next 4 years. In order to continue to receive the scholarship Ms. Shultz must maintain a passing gradepoint and full-time status at a institution of higher education accredited by the State of Maryland. She must also pass a drug test annually. Ms. Shultz will attend Carroll Community College.

Additional programs of the Optimist Club include: Little League baseball, football, and cheerleading, Just Say NO to drugs, fishing rodeo, high school oratorical contest, senior scholarship awards. The club motto is "Friend of Youth" and it's programs promote fellowship, role modeling and education for the youth of Westminster.
